Scotch on the rocks - Tracks

Scotch on the Rocks Album Cover

Banks of the Roses

This is a song with the typical jolly bouncing tempo that gets toes tapping and captures the spirit of traditional Scottish ceilidh music.  There have been several variations of lyrics applied to this tune, but its overall light-hearted flavour dominates throughout this opening song.

Dance as Old as Tears

Originally recorded as a 'folk song', Geordie & Caledonia have taken this catchy chorus and built it up in their own style.  You'll probably find yourself singing along with the chorus before very long.

" ... Who were you thinkin' of ... "

The influences of 'Country Music' can be found all over the Highlands, and Geordie & Caledonia reflect that in their repertoire.  Although they couldn't identify with the 'cowboy element', country songs about people's emotions are the same all over the world.

Green Fields of France

Most Highland villages have memorial stones listing local boys and men who served and died in the First World War.  This song is about an old man's thoughts as he wanders among the thousands of little white crosses in the graveyards of France where name, rank, age and date is given.  This is a thought provoking song with a heavy message.

Mountain Man

A self-penned song from Geordie, focusing on the stress-free life-style of a Sutherland crofter.  It emphasises the importance of the simple things in life, respect for the land and nature.  With values that are all too often distorted in the fast lane of modern society, the simplicity of the message in this song can seem quite appealing.

Hush Hush

A local song telling of the evictions during the Highland Clearances.  Many people were forced to leave their homes and travel to Canada, America and Australia to make a new life.  In those days it must have been a daunting thought for poor people from the Highlands.

Nobody wants to be lonely

A few years ago, Geordie became friends with an American singer/songwriter called Hugh Moffat.  This is a song Hugh sang at a concert in Germany, and in appreciation of Hugh's influence and encouragement Geordie wanted to include this song on the album.

Back Porch Light

Geordie first recorded this song nearly 20 years ago.  Even after all that time, people still request it.  The original is no longer available and so we thought it might be good to record it again.

Caledonia

For the exile, Scotland will always be fondly thought of in the back of their mind.  More so, if they were forced to leave in search of a better living.  This is a country styled version of the traditional song.

Scottish Medley

Scotland is a proud nation, and has a history of fighting to keep its freedom.  Many traditional songs recall Scotland's brave history and Geordie & Caledonia have included just a small selection in this medley.
