| Geordie
Jack
From
a small village in the Scottish Highlands (Golspie), Geordie grew up in humble
surroundings, as the second son in a family of four. Even as a child, he knew
he only wanted to sing and play, and was influenced initially by traditional music
and later by country music.
During the 1960s in the sparsely populated Highlands, it was essential
that local musicians were versatile, because they were required to perform to
a very wide age-group if they wanted to find work. Consequently, Geordies
repertoire had to range from Scottish ballads and MOR, to rock n roll and
he loved it all. He learnt to play tenor saxophone, drums, guitar, keyboards,
and latterly fiddle, although he claims to be no more than average on each instrument.
They were to be a means to access his first passion, which was to sing.
He served his musical apprenticeship with a country show band touring the
U.K., playing mainly dancehalls and working mens clubs. He took a break
from touring when he got married, but the musical itch soon came back and before
two years had passed he had became a daddy, and was also back on tour.
In the years that followed, his family grew, and his two sons and two daughters
were raised by a supportive wife who never discouraged the love of music from
dominating the Jack family. The boys (Kevin and Trevor) grew up with
both dads music and the teenage influences of the eighties.
Trevor played drums for a while but has now been replaced by Darren Coghill.
Geordie is very proud that they have joined him, adding fresh young energy
into an experienced band that is now more in demand than ever before. The lighter
side of the band often involves harmless jokes being played on Geordie
by the young ones but he usually ends up getting the last laugh. The
friendly banter is noticeable both on and off stage. Geordies experience
and performing appetite has never diminished and is respected and echoed across
the stage by a new generation.
