Bryan Coghill

Bryan Coghill

Born in Wick on the 13th March 1962 and have lived all my life in the small fishing village of Staxigoe, situated on the North East Corner of Scotland.

At the age of 12, I was taught to play the 5 row continental accordion by my father who himself plays a multitude of instruments including fiddle, accordion and bagpipes. The accordion playing introduced me to my first band, which in turn prompted me to learn rhythm guitar. After gaining 2 years experience with this band I moved into a 5-piece band called the Dynamos where I learned and played Bass guitar and 5-string banjo. During the 2 years spent here I also played the fiddle (which I attended lessons for during my school years) and in October 1978 won the Senior Scottish Accordion Championship for Bagpipe music. The only problem with winning this cup was the gallon of whisky presented with it (had to save it for the 18th Birthday party). The band went full time, which left me to complete my Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeship.

With this short spell off the music scene I bought a Pedal Steel Guitar and started the laborious job of trying to learn it with the help of a local band called "Silver Dollar". Yet again another 2 years on, but this time it's dream come true "Colorado" (the original name of the band). Yes I finally got the chance to go full time and play with Geordie, Dado and the rest of the band at that time. I have seen a few changes in the line up; I have seen and visited many countries; had some right fills of drink, some great laughs and some tremendous musical memories.

Idid find the time to get married (during the hectic musical career) to my wife Jackie, and have two children. Jenna 16 who plays piano, and Darren 16 who plays drums.

Today's line up has got to be the best team I have ever worked with and hope that with your support we go from strength to strength during the coming years.
